Abalone Mountain Press welcomes two new interns!
Abalone Mountain Press is excited to announce we officially have two interns for spring 2022!!! Meet Chael Moore and Sheena Wahid. They have been been so helpful since they have started 💖
Chael Moore is Diné from Crystal, New Mexico. Her pronouns are she/her/hers. She is Ts'ahyisk'idnii, Born for Honágháahnii. Chael is an undergraduate student at Arizona State University and Barrett, the Honors College, studying Creative Writing where she creates poetry and fiction. Her work frequently incorporates the Diné language and currently focuses on/is inspired by her identity as a Navajo woman, the lands and culture who raised, Indigenous love and heartbreak, and land body relationships.
She will receive her B.A. in May 22' with honors. She is also a student success worker for Indigenous students at ASU and a member of the Native Narratives program at ASU. Her work has appeared in the Lux Creative Review, ASUNow, Turning Points Magazine at ASU, and at the Museum of Northern Arizona and has forthcoming publications. Some of her favorite things include new plants, Trader Joes grocery runs, NM green chile, the show Insecure, clever puns, and all things brunch <3
Sheena Wahid is a Diné Asdzą́ą́ from Monument Valley, Ut. She is Tłʼááshchíʼí born for Todich’ii’nii. Sheena is an undergraduate student at Tohono O’odham Community College. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Sheena is also a weaver. She has assisted in teaching other Diné how to weave at the Heard museum and Phoenix Indian Center. She is also an activist. Sheena discovered her love for writing and poetry from attending the abalone writing circle. #abalonemountainpress#interns#lifesavers
